Hazard Analysis and Preventive Controls for Feed Online Training

Receive a PCQI Certificate and build an Animal Food Safety Plan

The Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Food for Animals rule found in 21 CFR Part 507 was published in September 2015 by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and contains regulations for the application of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) for the feed industry. To equip feed manufacturers and distributors with the skills necessary to develop an animal food safety plan in conformance with FSMA rules, Texas A&M University’s Department of Soil & Crop Sciences, in partnership with the Office of the Texas State Chemist, offers several training opportunities to equip individuals in the animal feed industry to conform to FSMA regulations.

Hazard Analysis and Preventive Controls for Feed (PCQI training)
This course contains the standardized curriculum recognized by the FDA as adequate for the application of risk-based preventive controls. Participants completing the FDA standardized curriculum will receive a PCQI certificate from the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA). In addition, participants taking this course may elect to view additional presentations on HACCP principles. Participants who complete the HACCP curriculum including the Animal Food Safety Plan Development course (see description below) will earn a Texas A&M University Certificate of Completion with an International HACCP Alliance seal and members of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists are eligible to earn 8 continuing education units.

Animal Food Safety Plan Development
Participants have the opportunity to develop an Animal Food Safety Plan with guidance by the lead instructor. This training is provided at no cost and designed to be company specific and developed using a team approach. The company must have at least 3 employees (including those registered for PCQI training) to participate in this activity.

FSMA Refresher
This course involves a 4-hour review of FSMA requirements for a food safety plan and what to expect during a FSMA inspection. This course is under development and is expected to be offered in 2022.

FSMA Auditor Training
Third party audits and self-audits are becoming more common in the animal feed industry. This course takes participants through techniques they can use to evaluate their own food safety system including elements of the Food Safety Plan as well as records that document conformance to the plan and FSMA regulations. This course is under development and is expected to be offered in 2022.
